A great way to keep costs down ×
Skiing in Australia is expensive. Cross country skiing is no exception, although of course, it is not as expensive as alpine skiing. Our club has decades of experience of finding and booking relatively inexpensive skiing accommodation.
Our ride sharing system helps to keep transport costs in check and our collective knowledge about ski gear can help you keep the cost of gear in check. We also have an online gear exchange where you can buy and sell gear within the club.
Public Transport
Mount Hotham
- HothamBus
- Alps Link (Connects with Melbourne to Wangaratta rail service via intermediate Dyson coach service)
It may also be possible (though difficult) to reach Mount Hotham via Omeo using the Alps Link service with intermediate Dyson coach service from Bairnsdale railway station. This may be of interest to members living in Gippsland.
Falls Creek
Public transport arrangements to Victoria's ski areas change fairly rapidly and can be a little confusing. This page gives links to the main services running from Melbourne. Much more detailed information including current timetables is contained in an excellent report by our newsletter editor, Malcolm Sinclair. Note that some services run on weekends only.
Lake Mountain
No public transport leaves Melbourne early enough to make skiing at Lake Mountain a feasible day trip, but Marysville can be reached on the McKenzies bus service. The Lake Mountain Snow Shuttle which previously ran from Marysville to the mountain will not run in 2024. We are not sure whether it will run in future years.
