A great place to get started ×
Our club provides a supportive environment for beginner skiers, both by providing formal lessons and instruction and also because experienced members are always more than happy to help out with advice on cross country skiing technique and gear.
There's a lot to learn when you start skiing - everything from ski technique to snow chains. The supportive atmosphere of a club like Melbourne Nordic can make it much easier to get into skiing.
Telemarking - Excitement and Elegance
A growing number of us who are keenly developing our downhill and telemarking skills. The club's snow camping trips have been a great opportunity to practice our skills. Some of us also spend time on the resort lifts.
We often base a trip at in Johnsons Hut, near Mt Nelse. We also do some telemark skiing as part of club weekends - either as part of a day tour or on the resort lifts.
For these activities group members must be competent off track skiers of intermediate standard or better. This kind of skiing requires off track skis (i.e. not light touring skis/boots).
We generally have several overnight snow camps each year - at the very least one early in the season, and one towards the end of the ski season, in the Spring. Depending on the snow conditions and weather, we'll do a bit of day touring, and spend a bit of time playing on backcountry slopes such as Mt Nelse.
